Cops bust kids’ lemonade stand

What a sourpuss! A neighbor called the police to rat out a bunch of kids — including 5-year-old triplets — who were selling lemonade on their street. The police response was fast: The kids in Haverford, Penn., were ordered to cease and desist. An officer told one of their moms that that the young entreprenuers were violating the law by selling lemonade without a permit.

“My children were crying,” wrote Dana Kleinschmidt, mom of four of the seven offenders, in a blog posting. Later, the cops had to apologize. Those business permit laws don’t apply to kiddie lemonade stands. Duh.

The complaining neighbor, though, doesn’t feel bad. William Nickerson, who called the cops on July 10, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the kids were ringing doorbells to peddle their goods and weren’t being properly supervised by grown-ups. “I’m not being Scrooge,” he said.

hideandseek

Two-year-old Natalie Jasmer was the clear winner in a game of hide-and-seek at her Pennsylvania home. Family members couldn’t find her during the game on Tuesday and called police and firefighters for help, the Associated Press reported. Authorities searched the neighborhood in Greenville, Penn., near Pittsburgh, for about an hour.

Thankfully, the family dog eventually discovered Natalie. She was asleep in a drawer underneath the washing machine. Her parents have now banned the game from their home. Charades, anyone?

The child’s father was supposed to drop him off at a babysitter’s, but instead drove to a subway station in the San Francisco Bay Area and left him behind in the car all day. Everett Carey was found by his mother after she found out that he never made it to the babysitter’s, police said.

The four-month-old boy was discovered unconscious inside his dad’s 2006 Chrysler at the El Cerrito Plaza Bart Station and died shortly afterwards at the hospital on Monday night, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Police are investigating, and it’s not clear whether the father will face criminal charges. The high temperature on Monday in El Cerrito was 65 degrees, but it would have been much hotter in the car, with the windows rolled up.

An estimated 36 kids die each year after being trapped in overheated cars. The majority are left behind accidently by their parents or caretakers. Summer is the most deadly time.

The Chronicle listed tips from authorities to help caretakers remember to check on a child in the backseat:

– Keep a stuffed animal in the car seat and place it in the front seat as a reminder whenever the child is in back.

– Always place something in the backseat — such as a purse, lunch bag or windshield sunshade — that requires you to open the back door every time you park.

– Ask your child care provider to call you or other emergency contacts within a short period if the child does not arrive.

We’re usually in favor of parents supporting their kids, but Dawn Morris seems to have crossed the line. Morris, 37, is accused of coaching her 15-year-old daughter how to fight. A cell phone camera captured on video the mom encouraging her daughter and the subsequent rumble between the girl and another 15-year-old in a Champaign, Ill., parking lot.

The video was posted Wednesday on YouTube, and police soon investigated, the News-Gazette reported. The two teens were charged with aggravated battery. Morris was arrested for contributing to the criminal delinquency of a juvenile. No word on what started the fight.

Teen put on sex offender registry for “sexting” nude photo

Phillip Alpert, 18, was mad at his girlfriend. So he sent out a naked photo of the 16-year-old to dozens of her friends and family members. Maybe he should have just dated her best friend instead.

Orlando police booked Phillip on a felony child porn charge. After the high school senior was convicted, he was required by state law to register as a sex offender. His attorney is now fighting to get the teen removed from the registry. Phillip says he is being excessively punished for a stupid, immature act. “You will find me on the registered sex offender list next to people who have raped children, molested kids, things like that,” Phillip told CNN.

How teens should be punished for “sexting” is controversial. Some police and prosecutors say that teens need to realize that sending nude photos isn’t a harmless joke — child molesters could get hold of the X-rated material.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against prosecutors who had threatened to file child porn charges against three teens featured in explicit photos. In March, a judge agreed to temporarily block the charges.

An Indiana teen secretly videotaped two other teens having sex and then sent the footage to other kids. Police began investigating after the embarassed girl in the video contacted authorities. The kid who made the video could face criminal charges, such as possession of child porn, WISH TV News reported.

The taping of the 15-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy having consensual sex occurred at a party on Saturday, according to a police report obtained by the Johnson County Daily Journal. By Monday, students at Indian Creek High School were viewing the video on their cell phones.

Other teen sexting incidents have been investigated by police nationwide, but nearly all have simply involved nude photos, not sex acts.

The woman gave birth on a flight from Samoa to New Zealand, but apparently nobody on the plane was aware of the newest passenger. The child was found in a toilet bin more than an hour after the plane landed on Thursday, AFP News reported.

It wasn’t until the woman told authorities that she had misplaced her passport that she was taken in for questioning. Officials noticed that she was blood-stained, a New Zealand TV station reported. Police said the mother and baby are now at a hospital in Auckland.

Pacific Blue, the airline, said that women are required to have medical clearance to board a flight if they are past 36 weeks in their pregnancy. It was not yet reported whether the baby was born premature.

The western Indiana couple was charged with taping themselves performing sexual acts with four kids between the ages of two months and six years old, authorities said.

Stephen E. Quick, 31, and Samantha Light, 25, ran a babysitting service out of their home in Veedersburg, Ind. They were being held in jail on $100,000 bond, police announced on Friday. Officials began investigating after being alerted by the parents of a 3-year-old girl. The child told them that the couple had touched her inappropriately and photographed her at their home, the Associated Press reported.

During a search of the home, police seized computers, cameras, video equipment, pornographic material, sex toys used in the videos and drugs.

Mom robs another mom in maternity ward

Having a baby usually inspires new moms to become more gentle and nurturing. Apparently not Jennifer Morris. Shortly after she gave birth to a girl, she allegedly stole another new mommy’s purse from the maternity ward on Saturday.

Morris, of Framingham, Mass., was arrested at her house on Sunday, MetroWest Daily News reported. Police said a security camera at MetroWest Medical Center showed Morris lift the purse from a coatrack. The purse contained the other mom’s cell phone, wallet and a digital camera with photos of her new triplets. Morris allegedly sold the camera. The buyer later told that Morris said she was needed money for crack cocaine.

Morris, 36, was being held in jail on $3,000 bond. It was not reported who would be taking care of her little girl.

Teen beauty queen stripped of title for drinking incident

Hand over the sash and crown. Pageant authorities have decided that Rachael Ramonas can no longer serve as Miss Connecticut Outstanding Teen, NBC News reported. The 17-year-old threw a party last month that was busted by cops for underage drinking.

It wasn’t clear whether Ramonas herself was charged, but at least two dozen people at the party were booked on drinking charges. No names were released by police because the suspects are all juveniles. Rachael’s parents, who were out of town during the bash, issued a statement defending her: “What was intended to be a small impromptu social gathering of our daughter Rachael and some of her friends and relatives this past Saturday night unfortunately grew in size and scope beyond what was intended.”

As part of her reign, Rachael was supposed to have worked with the Connecticut chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
