Pesticide found in kids’ cereal
Authorities in Connecticut are warning consumers not to eat Nestle’s Farinha Lactea cereal. Samples of the cereal, imported from Brazil, were tested and found to contain the pesticide pirimphos-methyl.
About 200 containers of the cereal were removed from the Mercearia Brasil store in Danbury, Conn. State food inspectors had zeroed in on the cereal at that store because it was mislabeled, said state consumer protection commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., in a WSFB News story.
The pesticide is a fumigant for grains, but is not authorized to be used in the United States, Farrell told the Hartford Courant. So far, a U.S.-wide recall of the cereal has not been issued.
